Thanks to Litfuse Publicity Group for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.
To be honest, I really struggled getting into this book. I think it was me, not the book/story line. The story is written very well. However, having just finished Mugabe and the White African while being 8 weeks pregnant, I think I need something fun and upbeat. This is a great love story but it is more dramatic and covers some tough subject matter: war, the causes of Helen's underlying pain, etc. This really caused me to struggle. I think under other circumstances, I would have truly enjoyed this book. I plan on re-reading it when I feel less emotionally drained. I enjoyed this author's style and creativity. I will read more of her in the future.
About the book:
Lt. Raymond Novak prefers the pulpit to the cockpit, but at least his stateside job training B-17 pilots allows him the luxury of a personal life. As he courts Helen Carlisle, a young war widow and mother who conceals her pain under a frenzy of volunteer work, the sparks of their romance set a fire that flings them both into peril. After Ray leaves to fly a combat mission at the peak of the air war over Europe, Helen takes a job in a dangerous munitions yard and confronts an even graver menace in her own home. Will they find the courage to face their challenges? And can their young love survive until blue skies return?
