The Twilight Gospel

I received this book free in exchange for my honest opinion/review.

This was supposed to be up yesterday. I apologize, having Garbonzita (aka Zita) this week threw me off a bit (Garbanzita seems more feminine than Garbanzo).

I received the book "The Twilight Gospel: The Spiritual Roots of Stephanie Meyer's Vampire Saga" by Dave Robertsfrom LitFuse Publishers to review. Here is the synopsis from the publisher:

The blockbuster Twilight Saga is being read by teenager and adult alike. These powerful novels are getting even more popular as the movies hit the theaters. Crisply written and with a gracious spirit, The Twilight Gospel will help teens, their parents, and their pastors discern what is good from what is unhealthy in the novels and equip them to be biblically literate readers.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. I wasn't sure as I had not read the Twilight Saga nor was I really interested in reading them. Vampires aren't really my thing. However, I love critically thinking through those books that I do read. I was curious what  Mr Roberts would have to say about the series. I really appreciated his views and insights. I felt like not only did they help clarify how the underlying themes could affect Ms Meyer's readers, but he helped me think through other books I've read. As a parent, I can see this being a very helpful resource for when we have teenagers and are teaching them to think through what they've read.

I also appreciated the gracious spirit in which he wrote this book. I felt he did not seek to tear apart Ms Meyer's work but to point out how some of the cultural influences and assumptions would affect her readers. He wrote it from a biblical worldview and pointed out where our worldview should, in fact, differ from hers.

This book is a pretty quick read (even for someone with a toddler, pregnant, working and preparing to move) and is worth the time it does take.

"Spring, Spring, Spring", sang the frog!

So reads the first line from Nugget's favorite book. I think we read this book no less than 10 times/day. It seems particularly appropriate right now. I am enjoying spring time here is OH. Here are a few of the sights I've been enjoying. I hope you are getting out and enjoying the sights, smells and sounds of spring!

Easter

There is so much going on here I haven't had any time to blog much less read blogs! I apologize for not keeping up with you all or keeping you all up-to-date on us! We, of course, went a little crazy with the picture taking on Easter. Rather than bore you with a litany of pictures, I made a few collages to represent our day.

We went to the Easter service the night before which made for such a relaxing Easter day. We woke up and had eggbake, homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee. Then we colored eggs with Nugget. She had so much fun! I had a lot of practice letting go and letting her do it instead of trying to control the results. I think this will be an ongoing lesson for me. I'm not sure I realized how much of a control freak I really am until I had a child.

After our egg coloring,we headed over to our neighborhood park for a family photo shoot. We had so much fun! Nugget ran and ran! She looked so precious in her dress! I had been hoping to have two babies to dress for Easter but Bonzo had different ideas.

After the park,we headed over to Ralph's parents to celebrate with family. It was so fun having all the cousins together. It is especially precious as both boy's families are looking at potential moves. The bottom pic of Morgan and Nugget was so fun to get. Every time Nugget would smile at the camera she would look back quickly at Morgan to make sure she was smiling too. It was super cute! It was such a wonderful day celebrating our Lord's resurrection and enjoying time with family.
