We did it!
We sponsored a little girl from Uganda! Her name is Patience Janet Nabumbo. She had been waiting for over six months for a sponsor. I have not done this since I was in high school--4 of us girls sponsored one child together. I think my friend, Sara, might have kept it up when we all went off to college and kind of faded away. I do remember that we sponsored her(?) through World Vision. Ralph and I are sponsoring Patience through Compassion. We have felt compelled lately to care for the poor and especially widows and orphans. We are also starting to work with our neighborhood SVdP chapter to help feed the hungry in our neighborhood. We pray God shows you where He wants you to serve and help. Consider sponsoring a child with Compassion or the organization of your choice. Find your local food pantry, soup kitchen, shelter, etc and jump in and help. We have been blessed with much and are required to give much.

congrats on the new addition to your family! i was looking yesterday at sponsoring a child from ethiopia, since that is where we are adopting from. then we will be linked in more ways than one. and i also had a little dream in my heart that maybe we would be able to meet our sponsored child when we go pick up our own child next year! what a wonderful thing that you and ralph are giving and making such a huge difference in her life!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. How exciting to know you are helping a child in need. What fun it will be to stay in contact with her. I hope you will be able to post a picture of her.
ReplyDeleteThat's so great! Good for you guys!!! Todd and I began sponsoring a child the year we got married and a couple years ago we began sponsoring a second. The only thing I struggle with is the writing to them, I am so terrible at that! I think the kid we sponsored in high school was through Compassion too.
ReplyDeleteGood for you guys, that's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteSweet! (I sneaked onto your blog from Kim's, since she always talks about how you read so much...so I figured you'd probably be a pretty good writer, too. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that's so exciting. Compassion is AMAZING. My little girl from the Philippines writes me every month; it's unbelievable how you start to love someone you've never met. I hope you are blessed beyond imagination as you get to know your girl!
